When Suresh Raina calmly tapped out a full toss
from Chris Jordan to long off for a single in the 2nd ODI between
India and England at Cardiff on August 27, he ended a drought of being not
reaching the 3-figure mark in 106 ODIs over four and half years. It was the 7th
longest such streak in ODIs. Andy Flower was the 3rd batsman to
score a century on ODI debut. He had to wait till his 150th ODI to reach the
landmark again. Then there is a curious case of Shaun Pollock who played 294
ODIs for South Africa but never managed to reach the 3-figure mark but scored a
century, over 11 years after his debut, while representing the Africa XI
against Asia XI in the Afro-Asia cup of 2007. Kapil Dev scored on of the finest
centuries in ODI cricket when he rescued India from a precarious position of
17/5 with a mammoth 175* against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup. However it remained
his only ODI century till date. He played for another 11 years without crossing
the 3-figure mark once. In this article we look at all the longest century less
streaks in ODIs.
