November 2nd, 2014 will go down
as one of the days where lots of records have been rewritten in the 137 year
old test cricket history. Misbah scored the fastest fifty (in terms of balls
faced and time batted) and went on to score the joint fastest hundred (balls
faced) along with the great Vivian Richards. Not a bad company at all to join!!!
The last time Pakistan beat Australia in a test series was way back in Nov 1994
(1-0). That was Mark Taylor’s first series as captain. In the 21 tests since
then and the beginning of this series Pakistan won just 2 (one being a dead
rubber) and lost 16 tests against Australia. But things began to turn around
rapidly after the first 19 balls of the ongoing series. They won the first test
by 221 runs and are well placed to win the second one too.
As mentioned at the start November
2nd will go down as a special date etched in the stats book.Misah ul
Haq and Azhar Ali became just the second pair of batsmen to score hundreds on
both innings of the same test after the Chappell brothers, Ian and Greg. In the last 53 years only Glen Turner of New
Zealand was able to score hundreds on both innings of the same test against
Australia. It took just 10 days for 3 Pakistanis to achieve that “impossible”. Misbah
also became the oldest player to achieve the feat at 40 years & 158 days. So
now let us go through some of the records when players scored hundreds on both
innings of the same test.

* No player from
Bangladesh has yet scored hundreds on both innings of the same test. The
closest effort came unsurprisingly from Shakib al Hasan (87 & 100) vs NZ at
Hamilton in 2010.
* 6 times it was
achieved against Bangladesh.
