Michael Clarke, Kumar Sangakkara,
Virat Kohli, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers. These are a few names which rush to
our mind when we talk of the greatest batsmen of this decade. But if you want
to pick the best all-round batsmen among them, one would invariably choose AB
de Villiers. Be it a cliff-hanger T20 match where you require 100 runs off the
final 8 overs or be it a final day in a test match where you have to bat out 90
overs to save the game, AB is your man to do it. The same can be said about his
batting too. He can play a classical cover drive on the up with a silken touch
off a ball outside off and the next ball of the same line and length he can
dispatch over the deep fine leg boundary standing on one knee.
After AB joined his
partner-in-crime Hashim Amla in the middle at 247/1 in 38.3 overs, the world
witnessed a massacre of West Indies bowlers at the bull ring in Johannesburg.
In the next 67 delivers, 13 boundaries and 16 sixes were hit by the pair. Let
us now see the innumerable number of records which were not just broken, but
rather shattered by AB de Villiers.

# A notable mention here is Hasim Amla who now has 18 ODI hundreds in
105 matches & 102 innings.
Other Stats –
# AB is the only player to score hundred coming into bat after 30
overs. He also did the same against India at Ahmedabad in 2010.
# Today’s was first occasion of 3 batsmen scoring centuries in an ODI
innings. Along with Amla & AB, Rillie Rossouw scored 120, his maiden ODI
hundred. The other occasion of first 3 batsmen scoring hundreds in a List A LOI
game is fir Wills XI vs Hyderabad at Rajkot in 1995.
# The closest 3 batsmen scoring ODI centuries in an innings came in the
Indian inngs against Australia at Jaipur in 2013. Rohit Sharma & Virat
Kohli scored centuries while Shikar Dhawan was dismissed for 95.
# SA’s total of 439/2 is the 2nd highest in an ODI. The
highest still remains 443/9 by SL against Netherlands at Amstelveen in 2006.
# AB’s hundred today was the
fastest in a List A game also. Previous record was held by Graham Rose of
Somerset against Devon in 1990 and Corey Anderson against WI in 2014 (both off
36 balls).
# The only fastest hundred in any recognized form of cricket came from
Chris Gayle’s 30 ball century for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune
Warriors in 2013.
# This was the 5th occasion of AB and Amla scoring centuries
in the same ODI.
# All of AB’s 19 ODI centuries came at a strike rate of 100 or more.
Sachin leads the list with 24 out of his tally of 49.
# 149 is AB’s highest ODI score beating his previous best of 146 vs WI
at St. George’s in the 2007 World Cup.
# Of his 19 hundred in ODIs, 11 have come while others also scoring a
century in the same innings.
# The 30 runs scored by AB off Dwayne Smith’s penultimate over of the
innings is the joint 6th highest number of runs in an ODI. Most runs
of an over still remain Gibbs’ 6 sixes off Dan van Bunge in the 2007 World Cup.
# AB has now scored his 10th ODI hundred as a wicket keeper
in just 55 innings. Only Sangakkara (18 in 329 innings) & Gilchrist (16 in
274 innings) are ahead in the number of centuries.
# AB scores a century every 5.5 innings when he keeps the wicket.
Fellow countrymen Quinton de Kock is the next in the list(a minimum of 3 100s)
with a century every 5.67 innings (6 100s in 34 inngs).
# Had AB scored one more run it would have been the fastest 150 in ODI.
The record continues to stand with Shane Watson who reached 150 off 83 balls
against Bang in Mirpur in 2011.
# Among the partnerships where 1000+ runs have been scored, the average
of 83.28 by AB/Amla pair is the highest.
